A short cash game with a simple yet interesting game flow.

Black opens with 62s and makes the only good play, the big split to the White barpoint and the safest builder in the Black outfield with a midpoint spare — a natural opening roll for Black that promises violent action.

White replies with 14s and hits the split Black blot on White’s barpoint and brings down a new White builder for attack. Starting the 20pt is also acceptable.

Black rolls 63s from the bar, enters, and must choose which hit – either 24/18* or B/16*

Although the equity difference is small (30mp), Black chooses the wrong hit. After B/16* only a minority of White rolls (about one-third) hit back from the bar. After 24/18* almost three-quarters of White’s rolls hit back from the bar. Instead of a laser focus on the blot-hitting contest, Black whispers some mumbo-jumbo about “connectivity”.

Correct but not selected

Play continues after Black B/22 24/18*

White hits back from the bar. Although White can make an anchor, the blot-hitting contest takes priority as more urgent.

Black rolls 11s, enters, makes the golden 5pt, and slides the runner blot ahead. Instead, playing the builder blot 11/10 is also acceptable.

White rolls a mighty 24s as the blot-hitting contest resumes. White points on the lead Black runner blot.

Black rolls boxcar 66s from the bar and dances, wasting the powerful roll.

White considers a first cube, but Black has the better board and the race is unfavorable for White. White also needs more attacking checkers in the outfield zone.

White rolls boxcar 66s (a Black-White boxcar exchange) and points on Black’s second runner on White’s acepoint. White also splits to the barpoint to bring a third black blot into direct range.

Black dances again and Black is toast

Black rolls another double 11s and dances again.

White doubles. Black passes. A fine victory for White.

Even a simple short game has something to say.
